Hello, I’m Vicky
The North East of England is my home, I was born here and raised in this small city on the coast, called Sunderland. And while this city has a bit of a negative reputation held by outsiders, those of us on the inside view it very differently. I consider it a place of understated natural beauty, incredibly rich history and culture and of course, legendary people who will fight for their city. Stick around as I attempt to dismantle the negative stigma against my hometown and show you what Mackem Life is really all about.
Here in Sunderland we are very lucky to be a part of the wider region of the North East, which includes the counties of Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and North Yorkshire. All of these regions have a place in Mackem Life and it will be my privilege to explore them all for you, and tell you where is worth a visit!
Discovering hidden gems, exploring new places and revisiting my favourite spots is what this page is about. If you want to know more, then please stick around and let me prove to you its not grim up north. Drop your email below to be notified every time I upload.
Come find your next adventure and
let me be your guide to the Northeast!
Want to feature on Mackemlife? Whether it be my blog, facebook page or instagram, I am always looking for new businesses to work with. If you are interested make sure to have a look at my Work With Me page and get in contact with me!

It is accessible by metro from both Sunderland and Newcastle making it the perfect place […]

Sunderlands newest restaurant, which isn’t even on google maps yet, Spent Grain is finally open. I feel like I first saw the name and logo on my social media so long ago! But it is finally open and serving the people of Sunderland. So what is it like? Before I get into the review, I’d […]
