Wildfire Pizza is a local independent business who have been on the move for the past few years. They were located for a while in the former Holmeside cafe in the winter gardens, and now they have moved to the Ship Isis pub. Yes, I am late to the part on this one, but I finally made it to The Ship Isis to try the famous Wildfire Pizza! So, here is my full review of it to let you know whether or not it’s worth the hype.
Before I get into my review, if you do enjoy this kind of content then feel free to drop your email address into the box below to be notified of all my new posts. There are more things like this coming!
Let’s start with some of the important information.
Where is Wildfire Pizza?
Wildfire Pizza is currently located within The Ship Isis pub just outside of the city centre. The pub itself is an absolutely beautiful place to be. It’s what I would describe as a proper pub! Wildfire is almost acting as the pub’s kitchen so you order at the bar as if it were a normal pub.

If you’re driving here and looking for parking, I think the best place to park is the Livingston Road car park which is the open-air one on the Vaux site. Parking here costs £1.30 per hour, but is free after 6pm and on Sundays and bank holidays!

Do I need to book Wildfire Pizza?
As it is just a normal pub, you don’t need to book as they operate on a walk-in basis. However, you do generally have to get in quick to grab a pizza!
They are open 5 days a week:
Wednesday and Thursday: 5pm – 9pm
Friday: 3pm – 9pm
Saturday: 12pm – 9pm
Sunday: 1pm – 5pm
On a weekend they regularly sell out of pizzas. They only make so many doughs for each day so once they are gone, that’s it. This is something I personally love about Wildfire as it really highlights the freshness of their product!
In short, the pizza was incredible. It is leaps and bounds ahead of other pizza sellers in Sunderland (that I have tried) based on quality alone. It is abundantly clear that the people who own Wildfire and produce these pizzas wont stand for anything less than perfect which resonates in the fact that they sell out.
Each pizza dough takes two days to go from raw ingredients to pizza on the plate. They could quite easily have a backlog of frozen doughs and premade bases ready as backup for when the fresh ones sell out but they don’t have that.
Of course they could have more storage and get more fresh doughs ready, however I love the fact that there is a limited supply. It has generated a great hype about the place, which it undoubtedly lives up too.
Their spring 2022 menu has 10 different flavour options on it. This includes a mix of veggie and meat options as well as tomato and white based pizzas. They even have 1 vegan option pizza on there too.
Be sure to give them a follow as their full menu, specials open hours and all other important information is up on their page!
When we visited I went for their mush love white based pizza which is topped with delicious garlic mushrooms. If you want to try something a little different then I highly recommend going for the white bases.
I visited with a fellow blogger Tasha, who you can follow on her Instagram or her Blog. She went for thei current special pizza, the new balance, which is topped with nduja. She absolutely loved it and finished off the full thing!
We also got some of their parmesan fries to share which were alright too. Although next time I think I’ll just stick to the pizza because I really didn’t need anymore carbs!
They also have Joes Fried Chicken on the menu which did look insanely good! If me and Shaun go back no doubt he will be trying that one.
Is Wildfire Pizza worth the hype? In a word, YES!
I know that no where I have been in Sunderland for pizza matches how good wildfire was. The only place that comes close is Slice down in Seaham, however they offer very different pizza styles and new flavours every week (and the owner of Slice is also my boss!!).
Please let me know if you have tried anywhere that compares? The only pizza dominated place I still need to try is Proven People. Have you been and are they any good? Let me know!
Thank you for reading this post! I do hope you’ve enjoyed it as I love trying new food places and reviewing them for you all. If you want to see what I am up too or just support me on my other socials then do give me a follow, all links are below.
