It’s that time again when Sunderland BID hosts their bi-annual restaurant week. This event celebrates local restaurants and gives us a chance to try our favourites for £5, £10 or £15. It will be running from Saturday 17th – Sunday 25th.

Sunderland Restaurant Week

Given the cost of living crisis and the fact that everything is just getting more bloody expensive, events like restaurant week can allow us to still treat ourselves while doing so on a budget!

Last week I was invited to their restaurant week preview with a load of fellow North East bloggers and creators to sample a few different places. I didn’t pay for that night, however, I am under no obligation to post and therefore all my opinions are organic. This however is technically an AD.

Before I get into the review of the event and let you in on all the great deals, if you enjoy this kind of content, then drop your email address in the box below to see my future posts!

The last post about restaurant week I published was full of every single restaurant and what they are offering. This time I will not be doing that as it was over 4.5k words and there are 54 restaurants taking part! Instead, I will pull out some of the best deals, or my personal favourite restaurants and then simply list the total restaurants below with links to their offers on the Sunderland Bid site.

Grinder Central

Grinder Central was one of the locations on the Restaurant Week preview. If you follow me on Instagram then you will know that I have a great love of Grinder and their delicious coffee. So going to see them was a pleasure!

They have two great deals for you this week:

£5 for Regular coffee and brownie/traybake
£10 for a Sandwich, regular coffee and a brownie/traybake/cake

Their cakes are all delicious so you will be utterly spoilt for choice! I have tried most and never had a bad one yet. And for the non-coffee lovers, give their white hot chocolate a try — it is amazing!

My Delhi

My Delhi is Sunderland’s newest Indian restaurant, but I promise you we have nothing quite like this. Think Indian food meets tapas! This isn’t a traditional curry house, you won’t find a balti or madras on their menu. Its unique dishes were brought from the streets of Delhi to Sunderland.

My Delhi is one of the restaurants featured in the preview event and it was one of my favourites of the night. A whole lot of that had to do with the passion and service we received. The chef himself came out and explained the menu and concept which just showed how much love he pours into his cooking.

At the event, we sampled 9 dishes from their menu, all of which were incredible. We had a little bit of everything, from onion bhajis to paneer tikka.

If you haven’t tried it yet then I implore you to do it because the food is absolutely delicious. Perhaps the best Indian restaurant in Sunderland.

My Delhi has two offers for you to try this week:
£15 for Chef’s Surprise Nibbles + 3 Street Plates
£15 for Chef’s Surprise Nibbles +1 Street Plate + 1 Roadside Stall Dish + Rice

808 Bar and Kitchen

This bar is one of the most instagrammable in Sunderland and has great food offerings too. One of their best-sellers is their tapas which you can sample 4 of for just £15 this time round. I think that’s a great deal and a great chance to try and few different items on their menu

The Engine Room

The Engine Room was the final place that we visited on the restaurant week preview. I haven’t been here since before the pandemic, so I was excited to go back. Their restaurant week menu has a great selection on it. Their vibe is classic pub grub with a fancy twist (in my opinion anyway!).

Not a lot of the food on offer for the preview event was vegetarian, so I didn’t get to try loads of it. However, what I did taste was pretty good, especially the vegan burger. I am aiming to come back and try their full menu at some point!

Here is their 2-course menu for you to have a look at:

Slice Seaham have opened up new premises at the Vaux Taproom over at Roker. They have only been open for one week but have joined restaurant week, so it’s the perfect time to try it!

Their deal is £15 for any of their 24″ pizzas. They are usually around £22 so it is a real bargain!

Asiana is pretty well known as being a slightly more luxurious restaurant (or at least it is in my world!). Therefore, many people don’t go often and would dine there on special occasions etc. However, their restaurant week menu is 2 courses for £15 and gives you a basic but I think pretty decent menu to choose from. This is one I am hoping to not miss out on!

Fausto Pizza

Located inside Fausto Coffee in Roker is this huge stone-baked pizza oven. And every time I visit, I think about how delicious that pizza must taste! Well, their restaurant week deal is £15 for ANY 2 pizzas. That is a deal I really don’t think I can miss out on.
